7 Of The Best Coffee Shops In Helsingør, Denmark 2024

Sat at the very north east of Denmark is the historic town of Helsingør, famed for its 15th century castle, Kronborg which provided the setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

If you’re planning a visit to this beautiful castle and wondering where you can get your caffeine fix, then you’ll be pleased to know Helsingør has plenty of cosy coffee shops to choose from. Read on to discover my favourites…

1. Strandvejsristeriet

Opening hours:

Mon – Fri: 09:30 – 17:00
Sat – Sun: 10:00 – 17:00

We’re kicking things off with my favourite spot. If history is what’s attracted you to Helsingør then what could be better than sipping coffee in the rooms that were once used as a canteen for soldiers 350 years ago.

Not only that but you won’t find fresher coffee – this family team also roast their own beans in their onsite roastery. So expect to be hit with the incredible smell of fresh coffee when you step through the door of this cute and cosy coffee bar. Plus, they also serve a range of sweet treats (I can recommend the rhubarb and apple pie), have lots of seating inside and outside as well as a friendly and welcoming barista team.

What’s even better is this coffee shop is actually just outside the castle, so you don’t have far to go and you can sit back and admire the view! But don’t worry – if you’re not planning to pay to go inside the castle, you can still access this café without a ticket.

2. Café Kruse

Opening hours:

Mon – Sat: 10:00 – 17:00
Sun: 11:00 – 17:00

Back towards the centre of town you’ll find Café Kruse, perfectly positioned on the edge of a pretty square catching the sun. Enjoy their laid back atmosphere, delicious coffee and full range of homemade cakes, pies and more.

Plus, if you’re hungry for something extra, they also have a lunch menu with lots of veggie and vegan options so you’re sure to find something for everyone.

3. Lagoni Kaffe Bar

Opening hours:

Mon – Fri: 07:45 – 18:00
Sat: 09:00 – 18:00 Sun: 09:45 – 18:00

For the ultimate Danish hygge feeling, choose Lagoni in the heart of the old town. Set in a gorgeous old sage green building is this cute and cosy coffee bar with such an inviting atmosphere.

Curl up with a freshly brewed coffee in one of their comfy chairs or head outside to soak up some sun in their front garden. A visit to Lagoni also wouldn’t be complete without one of their many pastries, cakes or even a traditional Danish brunch with rye bread, cheese, sausage, eggs and more.

4. Kagefryd

Opening hours:

Mon – Fri: 09:30 – 17:00
Sat: 10:00 – 16:00 Sun: Closed

Another coffee shop that oozes classic cosiness where you can enjoy your coffee by candlelight is Kagefryd. It’s both a welcoming café serving great coffee and a baking school.

So if you fancy learning how to bake your own bread, master Danish patisserie or craft the perfect cake then check out their courses while you’re sipping your coffee.

5. Miss Coffee

Opening hours:

Mon – Thu: 07:30 – 17:30
Fri: 07:30 – 18:00 Sat: 09:00 – 17:00 Sun: 10:00 – 17:00

Since 1999 Miss Coffee has been a local favourite for quick quality coffee, home-baked bagels and classic carrot cake. Head here to make the most of their breakfast and brunch deals made with the freshest local ingredients.

6. Café Karisma

Opening hours:

Mon – Fri: 09:30 – 17:00
Sat: 10:00 – 16:00 Sun: Closed

Another great option in the centre of town is Café Karisma, serving tasty coffee, brilliant sandwiches and of course perfect pastries. Head here for more gluten free, dairy free and decaf options to suit every palette.

7. Rådmand Davids Hus

Opening hours:

Mon – Sat: 10:00 – 17:00
Sun: Closed

Last but by no means least, for a different dose of history with your coffee – head to the old councillor David’s house from 1694. This beautiful old building is quintessentially Danish with yellow and red wooden panelling and perfectly preserved.

Grab a coffee or lunch tucked inside their cosy café or out in their courtyard to relax in the sun.
